Healthy Key: Find Where You Shine

Maui: Where I find My Shine

Are there people and places that make you feel like you just shine when you’re around them?

Can you be you anywhere?

I’ve learned it’s not as easy as it sounds. There are some places and people, that when you’re there and with them, you only want to be you. You love being you. And you know they love you being you too.

A place where you don’t have to apologize for the way you laugh, or that your skin has seen too much sun, or that you’d rather be on a board in the ocean than in a mall or salon.

You don’t even have to lie about your age!

It’s the places and people that know you at your best and your worst yet still seem to find you lovable anyways.

A priceless thing.

And then there are other people and places that seem to make you feel less than you are. It’s like you’re two different people. But you’re not.

It’s just that one place is full of love and acceptance and the other is full of insecurity and fear.

It’s a true thing that we only allow others to make us feel crappy by giving them permission, but I haven’t met in my 49 years a person that hasn’t felt the sting of rejection.

I believe sadness, rejection, and the feeling of not fitting in are some of the causes of self-destructive behavior. Do I have a degree to tell you that?

Nope.  I’ve just done it myself much too often and I’ve known countless people that have told me the same.

The reasons for being unhealthy are not as simple as too many donuts or french fries. It’s all a lot more complicated.

If you’re looking for a way out of your unhealthy spiral, start with avoiding negative people and places. Healthy behavior is contagious. So is unhealthy behavior. The more you’re around it the more you’ll be like it.

You may not have power over how someone makes you feel, but you do have the power to choose who you share you with.

Love to hear your thoughts!

Are you a master of being you anywhere or do you choose carefully?

Do you feel like your behavior is healthy or unhealthy when you’re around certain places or people?

I do my thing no matter what but I have been at this a long time. I even bring my own food to get togethers. It is who I am! ;-)

Love it! Another plus to being on the planet longer.. you know who you are and know what you need! Thanks Jody for stopping by!

Being completely yourself is a difficult thing. Since I’m older (as you said below, another plus for being on the planet longer) it’s so much easier. By and large what you see is what you get. In many ways that was always true for me but I wasn’t as comfortable with it. I’d ruminate over something I said or did, compare myself more even while “being me”.

Thanks for a lovely post. Let’s shine on. Cherry
